Skyborne Flight Briefing
Help Guide
How to use the briefing workflow.
Quick Start
- Start at Flight Overview and work down the page.
- Use the section status dots manually: grey = Incomplete, amber = In Progress / pending review, green = Complete.
- Use Save for local browser save.
- Use Cloud Sync to open the same briefing on another device.
- Use Export PDF for upload, review, or record keeping.
Briefing Workflow
- Flight Overview records aircraft, callsign, flight rules, route, timings, lesson details, fuel endurance, cruise altitude, and lesson aim.
- Weather includes general weather, departure, en-route, destination, alternates, F215/F214 charts, and weather decision.
- Wind Components includes takeoff, hold, circuit, and landing wind checks.
- Aircraft Status & Tech Log records legality, serviceability, hours, defects, limitations, and tech-log considerations.
- Mass & Balance uses With De-Ice and Without De-Ice image slots.
- Flight Performance includes ForeFlight performance images, climb-gradient working, remarks, takeoff/landing data, and V-speeds.
- NOTAMs includes PIB PDF, manual notes, map pins, and general remarks.
- TEM records threats, likely errors, mitigations, and risk level.
Saving
- Normal Save stores data locally in the current browser.
- Local Save is separate from Cloud Sync.
- Clearing browser storage, changing browser, or changing device may remove local-only data.
Cloud Sync
- Cloud Sync lets you open the same briefing on another device using a secure link or QR code.
- Workflow: Generate Sync Link, Save to Cloud, scan the QR code or open the link on another device, then select Load Cloud Briefing.
- Save = local browser only. Save to Cloud = upload the current briefing to temporary cloud storage.
- Sync links are access keys. Anyone with the link can access the temporary briefing until it expires or is deleted.
- Cloud copies are temporary, and each Save to Cloud refreshes the expiry.
- Delete Cloud Copy / End Sync Session removes the cloud copy and synced cloud files, but does not delete local browser data.
What Cloud Sync Stores
- Cloud Sync stores briefing data, settings/preferences, status dots, selected/visible sections, and supported uploaded files.
- Supported cloud-synced uploads: NOTAM PIB PDF, F215/F214 weather chart images, Mass & Balance images, Flight Performance images, and Climb Gradient image.
- Unsupported uploads, if any, may remain local only.
- After loading on another device, confirm important files restored correctly.
Email Sync Link
- Email Link manually sends the current sync link to an email address.
- It is useful as a backup or recovery option.
- Email Link does not replace Save to Cloud.
- The briefing must be saved to cloud before the emailed link can load the latest cloud copy.
- If the email does not arrive within a minute, check your spam/junk folder or use the QR code/link instead.
Customisation
- Settings allow Appearance: Light, Dark, Auto.
- Settings also control default section display, side menu default, Briefing Status card visibility, visible sections, section order, default aircraft, default flight rules, default departure, and Default Briefing Resources page.
- Flight Overview remains fixed.
- Hidden sections do not count towards overall briefing status.
- Sim mode hides Aircraft Status & Tech Log and NOTAMs by default, but does not delete data.
Briefing Resources
- The sidebar Briefing Resources card is paginated.
- Page 1 contains the main briefing resources.
- Page 2 contains tools and additional resources.
- Page 3 is Time / Clock.
- Time / Clock shows Local time/date, Zulu | UTC time/date, and an ETD countdown based on Flight Overview ETD.
- ETD is entered in Flight Overview, not directly on the clock page.
Uploads
- Weather, Mass & Balance, Flight Performance, and Climb Gradient sections support image uploads.
- NOTAMs supports PIB PDF upload.
- Images can be opened in focus view.
- Multiple images can be navigated within a group.
- Use clear labels for uploaded weather charts.
- After Cloud Sync, check uploaded files restored correctly.
PDF Export
- Export PDF creates a briefing document from the current briefing.
- Review the PDF before upload or record keeping.
- Hidden sections should not appear.
- The PDF should focus on populated briefing content.
- Disable browser headers and footers if they appear.
- Check images, notes, and calculations before relying on the PDF.
Status Dots
- Status dots are a manual review tracker.
- Grey = Incomplete.
- Amber = In Progress / pending review.
- Green = Complete.
- Click a dot to cycle status.
- Overall status only considers visible sections.
- Complete shows only when all visible section dots are green.
Tools & Calculators
- Wind and performance tools are briefing aids.
- Check results against official documents, Skyborne procedures, instructor guidance, and pilot-in-command judgement.
- Use true with true or magnetic with magnetic.
- Speeds are in kt unless stated.
- Mass is in kg.
- Pressure is in hPa.
- Altitude is in ft.
Data & Privacy
- Local data is stored in the browser.
- Cloud Sync stores a temporary cloud copy.
- Anyone with a valid sync link can access the cloud copy.
- Do not share sync links unless the recipient should access the briefing.
- Use Delete Cloud Copy / End Sync Session when the cloud copy is no longer needed.
Limitations
- This tool is a briefing aid.
- It does not replace official operational documents, aircraft manuals, flight-planning software, NOTAM/weather source material, instructor guidance, or pilot-in-command judgement.
- Always verify critical information against authoritative sources before flight.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Save and Save to Cloud?+
Save stores the briefing locally in the current browser. Save to Cloud uploads the current briefing to temporary cloud storage so it can be opened from a sync link or QR code on another device.
Will Cloud Sync delete my local briefing?+
No. Loading or deleting a cloud copy does not delete the local browser copy. Local data changes only when you edit, clear, save, or load a briefing successfully.
Who can access a sync link?+
Anyone with a valid sync link can access the temporary cloud briefing until it expires or is deleted. Treat the link like an access key.
What happens if I delete browser data?+
Local-only saved data may be removed if browser storage is cleared. If you need another copy, use Cloud Sync while the cloud session is still available.
Why did my email link go to spam?+
Some mail providers filter automated messages. If the email does not arrive within a minute, check your spam/junk folder or use the QR code/link instead.
What files sync to cloud?+
Supported cloud-synced files include the NOTAM PIB PDF, F215/F214 weather chart images, Mass & Balance images, Flight Performance images, and the Climb Gradient image. Unsupported uploads, if any, may remain local only.
Why are hidden sections not counted in briefing status?+
Briefing status reflects only the sections currently visible in your workflow. Hidden sections keep their data, but they do not block the overall status.
Does this replace official flight planning?+
No. It is an organisational briefing aid. Always verify critical information against official weather, NOTAMs, aircraft documents, procedures, instructor guidance, and pilot-in-command judgement.
Can I manually change visible sections?+
Yes. Settings > Visible Sections lets you show, hide, and reorder sections. Flight Overview remains fixed at the top.
What does Sim mode do?+
Sim mode hides Aircraft Status & Tech Log and NOTAMs by default while preserving their data. You can still re-enable sections manually in Settings.
Where do I enter ETD for the clock page?+
Enter ETD in Flight Overview. The Briefing Resources Time / Clock page reads that ETD and shows the countdown.
